Gordon and Fiona's determination to create extraordinary food while keeping it accessible to general public is applaudable. The rustic set up of this place with a warm hue are instantly comforting and approachable- just like their food. Whether its lobster with risotto, their signature duck confit, roasted chicken or halibut and clams, there are no frilly adornments and everything on the plate has a contribution beyond visual pleasures.
Insane carrot-cinnamon soup. Insane bluefish with fennel. Insanely amazing food in general. Cutely painted menus. A classy, cozy place with wonderful service.
Still great after all this time. Definitely not resting on its laurels.
An anachronism that needs to be put out of its misery. Crowded, loud and the slowest service in Boston for stellar prices. Tables are cramped together. Scallop dish with foie gras nice but the foie gras a piece of burned nothing. Skirt steak tough as a Boston cobblestone and tasted of Sterno. Desserts with pastry like hardtack and inedible. Service performs a vanishing act. Wine glasses a la Big Lots for fine wines. Save your bucks!!!!!
Found this place via Zagat in 2008, I visited the South End just to try it. Went there twice during my shorts stay in Boston in April 2008. The momen I entered the restaurant, I could smell the aroma of their dishes easily. I was certainly impressed by the taste of their food and service. Please try their signature roasted chicken.
