We went here often in the 90's and enjoyed it, but thought it went downhill after Howard, the amiable manager left. Haven't been for years and thought we would try it last night based on the positive comments here. Regrettably, it was no better than shopping mall Chinese food. Pork dumplings in red hot oil swam in a soup of glutinous peanut sauce, fried rice was wet and doughy, crispy beef was stringy rather than crispy. We won't be back.
About two years ago this restaurant changed ownership and management.
The attitude is gone and it is now a pleasant place to dine on well prepared, tasty food. The change was worth waiting for.
We have been enjoying Hunan Gourmet for more than 15 years. To both it's credit (and for those trend-seekers, possibly detriment), not much has changed in all of those years. Consistently good food, waiters that understand English and a willingness to please make this our favorite Chinese Restaurant in Fairfield County.
