I took my father out Saturday night to J. Gilberts in Glastonbury, CT. My friend had made reservations for 4 people and called during the day to add one more for a total of five for 7:00 p.m. We all arrived at 7:00 and were told to wait in the bar they had made a mistake. After 40 minutes we were brought to our table and crammed into a booth for four and one person stuck in the aisle. The manager was rude and the staff were unaccomodating.
Long time customers. Went to celebrate w/a gift certificate from our children.
Waitress, Amy, was unaccommodating. Curt. Offered no suggestions or apologies for changes/items not available. Online couples menu was "not available in this restaurant". Really? Probably shouldn't be offered online? Talked to Joel Brown, the manager, shook his head at each problem, assured us if we came back it wouldn't/shouldn't happen again? Really? No concessions!
J. Gilbert's has a great happy hour in the bar...both drink and food specials. They have an extensive martini list and some great nosh. Their happy hour foods change periodically. The mayday blue chips are to die for and they have a wonderful quesadilla. In addition to wonderful steaks, they always have some great seafood selections. The portions are not huge but the food is of top quality, is always fresh and presented beautifully.
An absolute favorite, best steak in Connecticut and perhaps beyond! We've never had a bad meal here - though admittedly, we almost always get the same thing: the melt-in-your-mouth aged filet. The service is always welcoming, attentive, and just friendly. We'll keep coming back!
This restaurant can always be counted on - been there over 50 times and never had a bad meal. The food is always top notch - on a ten scale they may not get tens but they never get less than 9. The whole menu is done well and the chef does a great job of matching tastes in his meal combinations. Staff is always there to please.
