This place is so out-of-the-way on a desolate stretch of Lake under the Green Line track, it's easy to pass it up. The food is great, service is fantastic and the decor is really interesting. Good seafood, pasta and an excellent place for either a special occasion, meeting friends or just to hang out at the bar and people-watch.
Macello serves original Italian pizza. I am Italian, born and raised in Italy, and can assure you of that. It is shocking to me that it is not more crowded, because the pizza is really good. Also the other food on the list is well prepared according to the Pugliese (heel of the Boot) tradition. Don't get scared by the surroundings (meat-packing district) and give Macello a try!
Very pleasant dining spot with authentic Italian cuisine and great servers. Bonus - it seems that everytime I've been there so has former Mayor Daley.
2 minute walk from our condo so i really wanted this to be great. Alas, the best thing about this place is the room which is really inviting and nicely designed. Food and service were a disaster on our first trip a few months ago. On follow-up visit this past weekend the food was marginal and service was weak. My wife's pizza was an undercooked disaster and my pasta was watery and flavorless. Service was congenial but slow and error prone.
It may be too new to tell, but the servers seem a little overwhelmed at this market district stunner. The dining room is breathtaking, with great glass globes hanging from the ceiling. Food was ok at times, great at others. Probably better as time goes on.
