Glorified diner food terrible service time after time bit always seems to be busy.
Mim's is a classic example of what you see is what you get. Fortunately for them, what you see is very good. The decor is a calming mix of classical and retro. The staff is friendly and competent, and knows the menu very well. They push the sell, but not too hard. The food is above average, but nothing to write home about, which is not a bad thing. The portions are very generous for the price as well. Definitely a place to return to.
Watch your bread plate. We were served half eaten bread, quite digesting.
Our party of 5 was at Mim's, Syosset for the first night of restaurant week. 4 of us ordered the filet mignon and shrimp. The only beef item on the menu for the special, while we were eating our appetizer the waitress informed us that they were out of filet, very disappointing and unusual for the 1st night of restaurant week. We asked for another type of steak and we were given 1/2 of a skirt steak. All in all it was a very disappointing meal.
We keep coming back! This is one of those places where we prefer eating at the bar and meeting up with friends. The food is consistently very good. The bar crowd is always friendly; especially Andrew, a great bartender.
