Houston evokes many things, but Paris? Nestled in the Galleria area on Post Oak’s main strip is Philippe Restaurant + Lounge, a welcoming French restaurant adamantly doing its part to bring a little of France to this side of Houston.
Whether it's said with Continental flare or a New York accent Philippe’s is synonymous with delicious French fine dining fare. The very popular restaurant is a bright spot you can't help but turn toward for its deli
This is just excellent! Bright, fresh, vibrant flavors, reawakening old staples like French onion soup and steak tartare. Best coq au vin EVER, and an amazing desert called a crepe souffle that is so delicious you can't forget it. One complaint, and it's important: too bright. Huge windows upstairs and down, no curtains. Didn't feel inviting til after 9. All that unfiltered daylight is not conducive to comfortable fine dining. Come in the winter!
Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Our apperitifs were confused by the staff, so we didn't get what we wanted; we returned the order and eventually got the right drinks. Our appetizers were outstanding, reminiscent of Philippe's previous creations: I had a "Drunken Foie Gras" which would compare favorably with any foie gras from anywhere in France, including the best places in Paris. My wife had the "Smoked fish terrine", which was truly amazin
A great find to compete with the more established restaurants and the only French makes it hugely appealing
Fine dining at its best!
