I've gone to the PGI 2 or 3 times a year for the past 10 years. The food is always very good - and sometimes it's phenomenal. I'm always happy with the duck - and when they have soft shell crab - get it. I try and alternate between German and Continental menu items each time I go. The servers are usually very nice, helpful and efficient. The decor is just OK, a little old fashioned. The men's room - as someone else said - needs a reno badly.
Truly wish I didn't Waste my money. 1:45 min still no entre. German food, my reason for going. Frozen potato pancake, Un believable small portion totally covered by gravy. Potato ball sticky no taste NOT LIKE GRANDMA. Don't waste your time or money. Truly forgetable.
As with previous visits, I didn't like it this time either. My wife's chicken was extremely dry and my steak tasted awful. I've gone when other family members wanted to for some occasion. I have nothing against the place or its proprietors; I've just never had a good meal there. The mashed potatoes are OK though.
Man, if a restaurant ever needed a makeover, it is The Pine Grove Inn.
Fabulous - truly outstanding, food and excellent cocktails (the bartender, Dana, may be the best mixologist working in Suffolk) are marred by a rundown, tired decor. The men's room is a disgrace - reminiscent of an elementary school lavatory - hardly what you'd expect when shelling out better than $170 for dinner for two.
Food - Excellent
Ambience? You've got to be kidding!
I go to the Pine Grove Inn once a year. If it's in the winter I usually have their old fashioned German food, but in the warmer months their excellent sea food is a far better choice.
