Unfortunately the "private" dining room wasn't! Extremely noisy group spoiled our evening. Maitre 'd explained (too late) that he couldn't do anything about it as the noisy group was company executives. Did get comp'd w/ dessert.

The Peninsula Hotel in general and the Shanghai Terrace in specific offer excellence at a high price. Everything about the place is excellent/outstanding. The food is some of the best Asian in the US. Service is spot on; fast knowledgeable and polite. Decor makes you feel like you are in Shanghai. In good weather, I particularly enjoy the outdoor dining. Highly recommended for those who want the best and are willing to pay the premium price.

I went a Saturday 5:30 pm, a private event was going on and the staff really forgot about me. The food was not impressive.

Authentic Chinese experience in the middle of city. Has a outisde terrace which however serves only drinks and finger food.

Be treated like royalty with dishes to complement the experience, can never go wrong with this wonderful restaurant. If in doubt or just confused or overwhelmed, just ask the knowledgeable staff.
