Great Japanese food with first-class ingredients and excellent service. The only thing to mar the experience was the astonishingly rude message I received from Sushi Taro, through Open Table, saying that "Cancelation & No-Show charge may apply to those who have cancelled less than 24 hours or No-Show. Charges may vary depending on the date of event ($10 per reservation up to $50 per person)." Unfriendly and unenforceable.
Literally the closest restaurant to my apartment and it took me months to try it. All of which I regret not having been more fully aware of what an outstanding eatery was right under my nose and unflatteringly above a CVS. The food here is uneffingbelievable. The service, however, fell flat on its face. Awful. But, it doesnt matter because any person who brings me 10 hour braised pork belly and fatty tuna that good will be given a wide berth.
First time I felt a zagats review was way off. I went in based on reviews and seeing a DC dignitary go before me. But the Sushi was nothing special, nice generic sushi. Not bad, just not the rating others have said!
The quality of fish is not good enough to be served raw, nothing more damning to a high-end sushi restaurant.
There are no words to describe simply the finest quality cuts of sushi and sashimi in the Washington D.C. area. The excellence of each finely-crafted, individual dish stands alone among a city that is overly concentrated with restaurants and establishments that merely average in comparison.
