My! Oh My! Oh My! What an experience! Eight course tasting menu that was perfection. Paired premium wines that augmented the food. A subdued decor that is serene and delightful. And an attentive, personable wait staff who treat you like a familiar friend. Easily one of if not the best dining experiences of my life. Highly recommended if your finances allow it!
I am forced to conclude that the Carnegie Deli is living on its past and its fame rather than it's quality. The Reuben was both bland and extremely fatty relative to others I have had. It was HUGE if that is an admirable trait. The hot dog with baked beans was good but certainly not uniquely good. Overall I would say it was okay but nothing to get excited about.
We went to Thalia for Sunday Brunch. The free drink (Bloody Mary for us) was well made. The food was good but not wonderful. The frittata was a bit bland (add some cheese??) as was the Eggs Crab Benedict though I would place it as very good. Altogether a good to very good but not great experience. They inquired about our theater plans and told us we could stay at our table as long as we wanted. Good ambiance!
We grabbed a couple of slices on the way to a play. The toppings were very good. My wife loved the dough/crust and thought the whole effect was better than Di Fara. I strongly disagree. I found the crust bland and almost flavorless (a "quick" dough"). That said the pie was well baked and the toppings made the pie worthwhile. Good for a rush dinner, lunch, or snack!
