Ate here before going to a show across the street . Place was busy. Seated promptly. Outdoor dining looked nice, but it was mid-August. We sat indoors. Waiter was prompt and had a good sense of humor. Decor is a mix of industrial and rustic, kind of funky (in a good way). Sea bass and shrimp were delicious! Presentation was excellent. No veggies. Wine choice was reasonable and affordable. Bread pudding very good, not great. Will return.

Another couple joined my wife & I at Esca for dinner. BEST SEAFOOD any of us have eaten anywhere--PERIOD. Facade and ambiance understated. Wait staff top notch: prompt, courteous, professional. Menu impressive. We opted for 5-course tasting menu. Crudo was yummy. Favorite course was spicy pasta with squid ink (ranked #6 in a national competition)--OMG. Fresh fish perfectly cooked and expertly presented. Mascarpone chocolate cheesecake!
My wife and I stumbled upon Grotta Azzurra while walking through Little Italy during NYC Restaurant Week. Streets were crowded and restaurant fairly busy. However, we were promptly seated. The food was very good: fresh and tasty. The wait staff were neither rude nor friendly, just a bit standoffish. Service was EXTREMELY SLOW. Food arrived in a timely manner, but we waited nearly 60 minutes for the bill and payment. Will not return.
