Love it, cant get a table, I have been trying to take my girlfriend for her birthday for years. Never can get a reservation, I've even stood in the restaurant and asked for whatever they have in the month coming. Still no luck. The twice I went (a decade ago) it was the best I've ever known.

I've been 3 times in 15 years, most recently a year ago. It seem to have got a lot stuffier and the decor was uneventful at best. While the food is exquisite it somehow doesn't wow in quite the way I'd want it to for the level of restaurant it is. It no longer feels like the temple of fine dining it did when I first went there.
I Love Zenkichi and have been there a bunch of times. The food is exquisite, the tasting menu is interesting and well balanced but the decor is probably the best part. Perfect for a romantic one on one or intimate dining with two couples the privacy of the shades and the novelty of the decor make it a special place. Not cheap but then good Japanese isn't.

My favorite New York restaurant. It strikes just the right balance of glamor and formality.
