An Italian restaurant where, when I asked for parmesan cheese for my pasta, the waiter replied, "It's already on there [long pause], but I can get you more if you want"? A mixed bag: Sandy mussels with linguine. Fair beet salad. Good stew w/ onions & oyster mushrooms. Fine tortolli. Broken espresso machine. Half of the small main dining room is freezing when it's cold out because there's no buffer when the front door opens, and it closes slowly.

Perhaps my experience was the exception to the rule. After reading so many flattering reviews I was expecting much more. What we got was fair. No bread or olives to nosh on was surprising. Sand in the mussels annoying but it happens. The lack of flavor on the linguine was the most disappointing. The risotto was very good though. Service was almost weird, our waiter specifically asked if he did a good job. I will say the proximity to the KC is good

Short menu with unusual dishes like grilled squid stuffed with pine nuts and raisins; white anchovies. The portions were large enough to split, so absence of vegetables with the entree is forgivable. The service was excellent. Take Kennedy Center shuttle from Foggy Bottom.
