As made up food holidays go, National Burger Month is an audacious one — it persists for 31 sunrises and sunsets. We’re probably not alone in welcoming the monthlong takeover, though, since burgers are generally awesome. Three restaurants around Philly are also celebrating with great burger menus and deals available throughout the month of May.
Each day will see a totally different burger special offered at all 11 outposts of this brewpub. Among the choices are a Banh Mi Burger (pickled veggies, cucumber, Sriracha mayo, cilantro; May 7) and the Big Cheesowski (cheddar, provolone, balsamic onions, chipotle ketchup; May 30). There are plenty in between, so be sure to return often — for every five you order, you’ll get a $15 Iron Hill gift card (each burger is priced at $13.50). Tip: while you’re there, also check out the revamped general menu, with new dishes like an artisanal cheese plate.
You won’t get too distracted by the rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia inside the Market Street branch of this global chain when you land one of the special “World Burger Tour” options available throughout May (and June — hey, why not). Combos are inspired by cities around the world, including a Hong Kong sweet-and-sour burger (shown above) and a Guatamala City “marimba burger” (beans, salsa, cheese, tortilla strips). There’s even one from Philadelphia — the “Joe’s South Philly Burger.”

You might not think of Dave Magrogan’s Irish pubs as a destination for food (they’re usually all about the beer), but that all changes during Burger Month. Each week in May, all four locations will offer a take on a famous fast food burger. First up (through May 10) is the Out-N-In Burger (mustard-cooked patty, pickles, caramelized onions:$10.99). Next is a quad of Royal Burger sliders inspired by White Castle ($10.99), followed by the Smashburger-inspired Smooshed Burger ($9.99). The promotion wraps up with the Big MaCarthy Burger (two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese — you know the rest).
