5 Classic Restaurants for Valentine's Day

The equally beloved as it is despised Valentine's Day is fast approaching. Today marks one month until the big explosion of love and chocolate, so if you're doing it up big, you better make a reservation. We called around to find out which Houston classics still had seats available and if anything special will be offered. Reserve now and rest easy tonight.

Mark's American Cuisine 
What's available: Reservations for their late seating - 9 PM and after - are all that's left
Special plans: 3-course pre-set menu
Price: $82.95 a person, excluding tax and tip
Good for: Intimate tables, a classic meal and a gorgeous setting inside a former church
Details: Must reserve with a credit card and agree to their three-day cancellation policy

What's available: Reservations are still being accepted, but the restaurant is filling up fast
Special plans: A top-secret prix fixe menu
Price: They haven't released a price for the dinner yet, but you might want to start saving up now
Good for: One of Houston's most iconic dining experiences
Details: Expect little extras in the meal like an amuse-bouche, petit fours, etc. If you forget to make a reservation, there's still hope. The restaurant plans on tweeting last-minute cancellations to fill the open spots

Restaurant Cinq 
What's available: General reservations
Special plans: In addition to their regular menu, there will be special dishes made for the evening
Price: Average appetizer $20, salads and sides $12, mains $35-$56
Good for: An elegant European-feeling evening
Details: Be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy a drink at their beautiful bar

Special plans: A three-course menu of Creole cuisine
Price: $75 per person
Good for: A very authentic New Orleans vibe
Details: In addition to the fixed price menu there will be a traveling jazz band to add to the experience

Rainbow Lodge 
What's available: A few seats are left, but owner Donnette Hansen advises couples to join up and get a larger tables for prime times
Special plans: A four-course menu (with choices within each course) with Lodge classics like smoked duck gumbo, lobster, buffalo and sea bass
Price: $75 a person
Good for: Feeling like you've escaped to a cozy woodland cabin for the night
Details: Lunch on Valentine's Day will be the regular menu. As owner Hansen tells us, it's a "real bargain for romance."
