Napa Valley's chocolate scene is small but strong and sure to grow as the focus on food widens in the region. As you're roaming around the Napa Valley on the hunt for the perfect Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon, save a little room for confections to take back home. These candy makers happen to offer items that pair exquisitely with full-bodied red wine.

La Forêt Chocolate

Wendy Sherwood's tiny three-year-old boutique is tucked away in a shopping center that only locals know about but it's deserving of international attention. The former pastry chef at The French Laundry offers dark and milk chocolate bars and outrageous candies like pecan cups and turtles. Ask about her exclusive online club where you can order seasonal Allocations: 25-piece boxes of limited edition bon bons. 3261 Browns Valley Road, Napa; 707-255-1787

The thin-shelled and liquidy truffles - in rich flavors like red wine, coffee Kahlua and Grand Marnier - are best consumed on the spot as they tend to melt in the Valley heat. 6525 Washington Street, Yountville; 707-738-6750
