Acquerello's 25th Anniversary Dinner Series Welcomes Chefs From La Ciccia, Fatted Calf & More

Alumni chefs that have landed everywhere from New York to Seattle return to the legendary Italian restaurant for Tuesday dinners

One of our greatest old-timers, Acquerello, turns 25 years old this July — a huge accomplishment in the turnover-filled restaurant world. Executive Chef Suzette Gresham and Wine Director Gianpaolo Paterlini are celebrating with 7 anniversary dinners, featuring alumni guest chefs and pastry chefs. The first one happened on June 3, featuring chef Liza Shaw of Merigan Sub Shop, pastry chef Tim Nugent of Oakland's soon-to-open Shakewell Bar & Kitchen and Chef Michael Shwe of Proof Baking. The chefs brought back dishes from their days at Acquerello and re-imagined dishes inspired by their current ventures, like Shaw's deconstructed “Terrina Sub” ala Merigan Sub Shop or Nugent's divine pistachio semifreddo with cherries and pistachio brittle (pictured above).

At next week's dinner with Chef Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan of La Ciccia and La Nebbia, they are crafting courses like a chilled sheep milk ricotta soup with melon, cucumber and peas and a vertical tasting of 3 aged prosciuttiThankfully, there are 6 more dinners to go — all held on Tuesday nights through June, July and August. Ten percent of the proceeds from each dinner will benefit different non-profits, like local New Door Ventures. Each dinner will vary in course number, dinner and wine pairing prices.
