Truly sad news today: Annisa restaurant, the top-rated West Village eatery from chef Anita Lo will close in May after 17 years according to the NY Times. The article reveals that the real estate taxes on the space had nearly doubled after two years and chef Lo can't keep raising prices to mitigate rising costs of running the business. She has no plans to open another restaurant presently and will instead focus on another cookbook and taking some much-needed time off. Annisa is one of a wave of several highly-rated and beloved restaurants (Betony, Luksus, Blue Ribbon Bakery) to announce closures in the last few months and ranked No. 24 on our list of 50 best restaurants this year.
