Austin City Limits is upon us: for those going to the festival, here’s a guide to the mouthwatering food choices. For the rest of us, there are plenty of celebrations around town. Banger’s is celebrating Oktoberfest all weekend, with the fest winding down on Sunday. Out in Fredericksburg, they’re partying down for Oktoberfest all weekend, too. And don’t forget Hops & Grain’s silent disco to celebrate their second anniversary, including 15 (15!) types of beer on tap.
Here for the festival and want to sample some of the best food in Austin? The ACL BBQ/Taco/Beer/Dessert Van Food Tour will pick you up downtown, take you on a whirlwind foodie tour, and drop you off at the festival on October 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12. The tour will hit some of the best spots in town, including Franklin Barbecue, Torchy's Tacos, Blue Ox BBQ, Sugar Circus Bakery and Hops & Grain Brewery. After, if you still have room to try some of the awesome food vendors at ACL, you’ll be our hero. Make reservations online, as spots fill up quickly ($75, starts at 9:45 AM, pick up at the corner of West Third and Nueces, drop off near the festival at Barton Springs and Lamar, 21 and up).
Yes, Austin had Austoberfest last weekend, but if you want the authentic experience, the German town of Fredericksburg is hosting an all-out party, with the chicken dance and as much sausage on a stick as you can handle ($7 for adults, $1 for kids 6-12, free for kids 6 and under; Fri 6 PM to midnight, Saturday 10 AM to midnight, Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM).
Farmhouse Delivery, Rain Lily Farm and Present Company are putting on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as a potluck. Bring a dish (or not) and enjoy free beer whilst you watch (6 PM, 914 Shady Lane).
Candy Jar Grand Opening
Whether they’re 4 or 40, sweets lovers will be excited about the new candy store opening in the Hill Country Galleria (12700 Hill Country Blvd., Suite T-110).
Hops & Grain Second Anniversary Celebration
The taproom will be pouring more than 15 types of beer, many brewed and aged specifically for the celebration. You’ll also find food, live music and a silent disco. Buy tickets here ($20, 12-6 PM, 507 Calles St.).
Last Day of Oktoberfest at Banger’s
Sunday marks the last day of the Oktoberfest celebration at Austin’s favorite sausage and beer hall. There will be beer and brunch from Hops & Grain as well as all-day activities (79 Rainey St.).
