RIP Cicchetti, one of the most disappointing closings of 2014. The highly praised Venetian-inspired restaurant could not survive in the odd location inside Northwestern Hospital, and Lettuce Entertain You hopes a more casual concept will succeed where the elegant Italian one failed: the second location their all-day eatery Beatrix opens today in the Streeterville space.
The menu resembles that of the original, with fresh and fast offerings targeted at the downtown crowd. Think crispy ten-grain oatmeal for breakfast, kale salads during lunch and parmesan-crusted chicken at dinner, all coming out of an open kitchen. However, several new items will also make their debut at the new location, including cauliflower grits with brussels sprouts, brioche-crusted branzino with mushroom verjus and brown rice porridge with Bartlett pears.
In addition to traditional table service, diners have the option of perusing The Market for their meal. This grab-and-go section offers a salad bar, soup counter, hot entree bar and a fully stocked chocolate closet. Fans of Beatrix’s caffeinated creations can also get their fix at a coffee nook serving bulletproof tea, cold brew nitro coffee and housemade pastries. (Make sure to grab at least three angel food cake muffins before getting on with your day.)
