Count this up as another loss for an Iron Chef. Chef Masaharu Morimoto's Bisutouro, the concept that immediately followed the closing of his badly-reviewed Tribeca Canvas, will shut down after opening this past October. Grub Street reports that though the space plans to reopen in a few months with a new theme, the celebrity chef is leaving the partnership to focus on his Morimoto brand. Patrick Fahey, one of the partners in the failed endeavour, runs fellow TriBeCa retreat Macao, so we will wait to see what his team has in store to find a long term solution for the neighborhood.
Across town, East Village southern kitchen Picnic has packed up its utensils. Fork In The Road received confirmed from multiple sources that the restaurant is closed for good after the restaurant went dark several weeks ago. Though there's no word on who might jump on the restaurant rich Second Avenue storefront, chef Nick Nostadt has already moved on to a new opportunity. Nostadt is now overseeing the kitchens at a few high end beer bars like The Jeffrey to ensure craft beer nerds have plenty of quality bites to accentuate their palettes.
