Your daily roundup of Philly food tidbits
• Two new happy hours have popped up for your spring sipping pleasure. Bistrot La Minette is offering drink deals for the first time (on the patio and bar only), and per Foobooz they include $3 wines, $2 beers, $4 kirs and $6 aperitifs from 5:30-7 PM, Monday-Friday. The bar at Avance is splitting happy hour into two parts - 4-5:30 PM and 9-10:30 PM, offering $5 beer, $10 cocktails and a punch of the week, according to a Philly.com report.
• Spike Mendelsohn is finally moving on the Philly location of Good Stuff Eatery, which has been slated for 18th and Chestnut in Rittenhouse since January of 2013. Eater points us to the Philadelphia Real Estate Blog, which has photo of a “hiring” notice tacked up on the still-plywood-covered door. Spike’s high-end fast burgers will have plenty of competition once he does open - to go along with all the homegrown options, Center City is now has a BurgerFi and Umami Burger is reportedly landing here soon.
• Speaking of high-end burger chains, Bobby’s Burger Palace has rolled out a new menu for the first time since Bobby Flay launched the line six years ago. New options include the Carolina burger (mustard BBQ sauce, green onion slaw) and the brunch burger, topped with a fried egg. Also new are two shakes - mocha and mint chocolate chip - and a griddled pimento cheese sandwich. Get crunchified in all new ways at outposts in University City and the Cherry Hill Mall.
• You may think it’s spring, but really it’s affogato season, at least according to Rittenhouse coffee shop Elixr, which will now regularly stock Little Baby’s Ice Cream in order to make the sweet espresso treats. Celebrate from 3-6 PM on Thursday, April 3, when every affogato you order will come with a free scoop in a cup or cone on the side, because there’s no such thing as too much ice cream.
