The gist: Debuting just next door to the newly reopened Union Square Cafe on 19th Street is Daily Provisions — a daytime hangout for coffee, sandwiches and pastries from Danny Meyer and the USHG team. Equipped with an in-house bakery and rotisserie, the seasonal, made-to-order menu is helmed by executive chef Carmen Quagliata of sister restaurant Union Square Cafe, who is joined by head baker Justin Rosengarten and pastry chef Daniel Alvarez, also from the Union Square Cafe team.
The food: The morning menu features fresh-baked bread, pastries like an assortment of cruellers and "everything" croissants, breakfast sandwiches, fancy toasts and breakfast gougères. The all-day menu focuses on sandwiches like a classic chicken Milanese, roast beef (pictured at top) and a broccoli melt. Seasonal salads and sides are fueled by produce from local farmers. The drinks: Freshly brewed Joe Coffee and a selection of artisanal teas from In Pursuit of Tea will be available, plus wine. Craft beers and cold brews will be on draft, with growlers available for purchase as a to-go option.
The space: This intimate spot designed by Rockwell Group has a deep blue interior matching the outside facade and brass, wood and marble accents throughout with a sleek wraparound counter as the focal point. Custom-made fixtures transform as the eatery transitions from morning to afternoon service: a high-top table and pickup table used in the mornings join together to become a large communal table at night.
