Austin's favorite curmudgeon, John Mueller, of Texas barbecue fame, certainly got everyone's attention at a press conference on Thursday for Fun Fun Fun Fest, saying he was retiring from barbecue immediately. (Don't worry, he was just messin' with us.)
The real announcement was that FFF Fest will include a batch of trailers hand-picked by Mueller himself. James Moody of Transmission Events said, ''there's a difference between Frenchy pastry chefs and good Texas cooks,'' which is why FFF Fest has chosen the ''warrior of beef and cold beer, killer Mueller'' to curate the trailers.
Mueller was in top form, joking that FFF chose him because rival pitmaster ''Aaron Franklin wasn't available.''
We're looking forward to seeing the types of trucks Mueller chooses. For more Mueller charm as well as some shots of beautiful smoked brisket, check out our video of Mueller schooling us on how to smoke brisket.
