Pop-Up Alert: Austin Eatery Plans Toki Takeover

Austin’s East Side King, an Asian-inspired mini chain that includes two food trucks and two storefronts, makes an appearance outside of the Lone Star State next week with a one-day pop-up at Toki Underground on H Street NE.

The takeover takes place January 24 beginning at 11:30 AM and will feature a few East Side King classics along with some new dishes created for the event. Visiting chefs Paul Qui, Moto Utsunomiya and Jorge Luis Hernandez have crafted a menu that includes beef-tongue kare kare buns, beet home-fries, fried Brussels sprouts salad and Thai chicken karaage, which is described as deep-fried chicken thigh with sweet-spicy sauce, fresh basil, cilantro, mint, onion and jalapeño.

Coincidentally, Toki Underground chef-owner Erik Bruner-Yang continues Tokifact - his own pop-up at Artifact Coffee in Baltimore - tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night (202-388-3086).
