San Diego Beer Week starts today and runs through Nov. 15, and this year the 10–day annual event promises to be bigger than ever before with more than 500 brew–centric events throughout the county. If you're looking to narrow down the massive collection of beer–dinner pairings, tastings and tours, we have you covered. Read below for nine notable events highlighting learning sessions for beer newbies to a fun ice cream social by the park. Kicking off the week–long shebang is the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival at the Port Pavilion Downtown. It happens on Friday, Nov. 6, when attendees can sample unlimited tastes from more than 50 local breweries restaurants. It starts at 6 PM, and we recommend going early and staying until the final beer is served at 9 PM.
See the local sights by reserving a space on Beer Geek Tours. Experience aspects of the brewing process plus get to taste beer from White Labs, Societe and Brothers Provision, which is included in the cost of the ticket. Tours are available Nov. 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 and are $115 per person.
East Village's Stella Public House is teaming up with Belching Beaver for an ice cream social. Starting at 3 PM on Sunday, Nov. 8, the restaurant will be serving samples of Poundtown Triple IPA, Mango Berlingerwiess and Maple Bourbon Barrel–Aged Horchata Imperial Stout. The first 70 in line to buy a beer float ($8) with Belching Beaver's Peanut Butter Milk Stout get to keep the glass. Fault Line Park, adjacent to the restaurant, will be showing Charlie and The Chocolate Factory beginning at 4 PM.
Grab a kayak or SUP board and join Pints & Paddles for a Cause on Sunday, Nove. 15. The organization is touring Mission Bay on a two–mile jaunt from 9 AM to 1 PM. Prices start at $15 for recreational paddles to $45 for the pro race. Proceeds from the event go to Team River Runner, a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates wounded veterans through paddle sports.
Slater's 50/50 and Rip Currant Brewing are hosting an all-out seven–course beer and dinner pairing for only $50 per person. Dishes include maple bacon bourbon wings paired with Black Lagoon Scottish ale and crispy Brussels sprouts with San Onofre Saison. Dinner is Monday, Nov. 9, from 7 to 9 PM at the San Marcos location of Slater's 50/50.
Donuts and beer will be served side-by-side at South Park's Thorn Street Brewery on Sunday, Nov. 8. Creative donuts paired with the three house brews includes a collaboration with Carnitas' Snack Shack. Cost is $15 per person, and the event is from noon until 2 PM.
The monthly Chicks for Beer dinner is featuring Faction Brewing at Bay Park's High Dive Bar. Starting at 7 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 7, the event will include dinner by chef RoseAna Peyron, paired with beers from the Alameda brewery. Cost is $45 per person and proceeds benefit the local chapter of Susan G. Komen.
Wanna get in on the beer fun? Head to OB Warehouse for a Beer Sensory Class with introduction to beer styles by Cohn Group's beverage manager Maurice DiMarino. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2:30 PM, the hands–on class also includes a history of the beer in the city and small bites.
Beer from Mexico isn’t just Modelo, Dos Equis or Corona — discover new brews at the Baja Beer Craft Tasting event. It's held at Balboa Park's Mingei Museum on Friday, Nov. 13, 6-9 PM, and participating Mexican breweries include Border Psycho Brewery, Aqua Mala, Cervezeria Wendlandt, Cervecería Península and more. Prices start at $20 for museum members and are $30 the day of event.
