Prepare to unfurl a Starr-Spangled Banner.
Not a typo. On July 4th, restaurateur Stephen Starr will expand his empire to encompass dining destinations at the Clark Art Institute in the Berkshires, his first restaurants north of New York City. Starr has been a seminal figure in the transformation of the Philadelphia dining scene, in particular; he’s the man who launched Morimoto, El Vez, Il Pittore, and Buddakan, to name a few. And he’s tapped Aimee Olexy, with whom he opened Philadelphia’s Talula’s Garden, to oversee the food at his “culinary partnership” with the esteemed museum in Williamstown, MA.
The first spot, Café Seven, will be in the Institute’s new Visitor Center. (Its name nods to the center’s 7-shaped red granite wall, part of the Clark’s $100 million museum-wide renovation.) The Café will offer indoor and terrace seating from 10 AM-5 PM (until 7 PM on Fridays in July and August) and Olexy’s farm-to-table sensibility will be reflected in “elevated snacks” like a signature granola blend, locally sourced honeys and cheeses.
The culinary partnership will extend to the Stone Hill Café, which has sweeping views of the local mountains. And in Spring 2015, Starr will open a coffee bar in the Manton Research Center.
