Vaudeville Nightclubs, Trash Fish and Tastings

Vaudeville nightclub coming to Boylston Street. The team behind Back Bay restaurant and nightspot The Brahmin is launching a nightclub, slated to be named "Stage," that will arrive to a Boylston Street location this year. The vaudeville-inspired space will boast multiple stages and "luxurious and classic" decor that nods to the 1900-1930s era of cabaret theater, according to a description included in a call for performer auditions, held last night. Dot 2 Dot welcomes Picco alum. A neighborhood-favorite cafe welcomes a chef from - well, a different neighborhood-favorite cafe. After six years as sous chef at the South End's Picco, Kerrie Chandler has moved over to Dot 2 Dot Cafe. That Dorchester spot is breakfast- and lunch-only, save for special Friday dinner menus, but has extended its hours until 5 PM on Thursdays. All the better to serve up a (very vegan-friendly) menu of sandwiches, salads and baked sweets. A rep for the restaurants says Dot 2 Dot is also working on procuring a liquor license.

Taste of the South End. The annual fundraiser for AIDS Action Committee is here once again, bringing together over 40 Boston chefs for a single night of small plates, wine tastings and beer samplings. On Tuesday, March 4 the BCA Cyclorama will be packed with toques from Aquitaine, B&G Oysters, The Beehive, Cinquecento, Coppa, Mistral, Toro and many other restaurants representing one of the city's most popular dining 'hoods. Tickets, which earn you all the tastes you can tuck away - plus access to raffles and silent auctions - are $100 and available here. It's $150 for VIP admittance, which includes early entry, a chance to mingle with chefs and several other perks.

Trash Fish. Mark your calendar for Sunday, March 16, when Chefs Collaborative will host its second Boston-area "Trash Fish" dinner at Area Four. The sustainability-minded organization hosts the dinners to draw attention to fish that are often left off menus, discarded as bycatch, or otherwise mostly unknown to the average diner. (Think redfish and dogfish.) This year the participating chefs will include William Kovel (pictured) of Catalyst, Josh Lewin of Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro, Cassie Piuma of Sarma and more.
