Ferran Adria's Kitchen Sketches: El Bulli is no longer, but the renowned Ferran Adria is still giving us snippets of his inspiration. The Drawing Center will feature “Ferran Adria: Notes on Creativity” from Jan. 25 through Feb. 28 with numerous sketches outlining the chef’s creativity (admission is $5 per person). From sketches of how he instructed chefs to plate various dishes(above) to drawings of his inspiration, this is the first major museum to showcase Adria’s behind-the-scenes work. Chinatown Guided Tour: While the Asian lunar new year is still a week away, the Museum of Chinese in America is leading walking tours of Chinatown to showcase traditions and customs of the holiday. Food plays an important role during the festivities and this tour, which runs from 11 AM to 12:30 PM ($15 for adults, $12 for students and $8 for museum members), will give a nice overview of the restaurants and markets in Manhattan’s Chinatown. 215 Centre St.
The Ultimate Hog-Fest: For fans of pork - whether it’s bacon, porchetta or pork belly - there is one event not to be missed: Cochon 555. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park is hosting this year’s porcine-centric affair where five chefs will cook up five whole heritage breed pigs paired with five different wines from 4 to 8 PM. The marquee chefs vying for a spot in the finals of the Grand Cochon at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen later this year include Seamus Mullen (Tertulia), Lauren Hirschberg (Craftbar), Michael Toscano (Perla), Frank Langello (Babbo) and David Standridge (Market Table). Fire-Breathing Festival: The fourth annual NYChiliFest 2014 takes over Chelsea Market from 7 to 9 PM with chili stations set up by restaurants ranging from Roberta’s to Num Pang. While celebrity judges will pick a winning chili, this year’s competition also includes a people’s choice award. Dickson’s Farmstand Meats donated all the meat, which will show up in various iterations, from ethnic versions with a spicier kick to more traditional recipes loaded with beans, bacon and cheese. Retro Cocktail Hour: Beyond the mini disco balls and other kitschy trinkets, Golden Cadillac Food and Drink serves up some serious cocktails. Check out Seventies Sundays, and you’ll understand why. This 1970s-inspired watering hole and restaurant is launching the event series with Jeff “Beachbum” Berry talking about tiki cocktails 5 to 7 PM while bartenders mix special drinks ($8) from his book, Potions of the Caribbean.
