Coming Soon: Elmyriachi, Polaris, The Bishop & MadeBy Christopher Hassiotis | May 6, 2014 By Christopher Hassiotis | May 6, 2014
Kirkwood: Elmyriachi, the Kirkwood outpost of L5P dive Elmyr, opens on Friday, May 9. The restaurant will feature a menu that expands well beyond the burritos and quesadillas of Elmyr larger Mexican-inspired plates. The neighborhood's excited about the patio, and it should take note, too, of the extensive list of specialty margaritas and cocktails; it's refreshing to see a new place feature drinks made with quality ingredients that come in under $10 (1950 Hosea L. Williams Dr. NE; 404-588-0250).
Avondale Estates: Luellen Marshall's American comfort food pub The Bishop will open on Tuesday, May 13. Want a preview of what to expect? The launch menu's already online, so peruse dishes like smoked fried chicken with whipped cauliflower, honey butter and black-eyed pea Southern caviar ($16) or the Portobello Mushroom Reuben ($11.50), among others (124 N. Avondale Rd., Avondale Estates; 404-202-6700).
Downtown: The iconic space-age Polaris Restaurant (pictured above) that sits atop the Hyatt Regency Atlanta will reopen next month, after a decade-long closure. Originally built in 1967, the restaurant sits 22 stories high and completes a full rotation every 45 minutes. The hotel has a rooftop garden where the restaurant will source much of its produce and herbs for the menu from chef Martin Pfefferkorn. Polaris reopens on June 10 - Tuesday through Saturday for dinner - and will not take reservations (265 Peachtree St. NE; 404-577-1234).
Alpharetta: Chris Sedgwick, a founder of the local Pure Taqueria chain, plans to open Made Kitchen & Cocktails in Alpharetta later this summer. The Spanish-inspired restaurant will feature three menu sections, focusing on quick tapas-style small bites, grilled fish and meats, and more traditional entrees. The restaurant will have both interior and exterior seating for more than 100 diners (45 Roswell St., Alpharetta; 770-676-0911).
