Opening: Westside's La Urbana, Buckhead's Vine & Tap

La Urbana Tequila & Mezcal Bar has opened in Atlanta's Westside in a space previously dominated by pizza (Slice, Westside Pie). Jesus Onate, the owner of Norcross' Zapata Tacos & Tequila Bar, is behind La Urbana. Onate is a certified tequilier, and La Urbana's Mexican spirits go well beyond the typical bar's selection. The food menu's evolving, though expect Mexican sandwiches, daily snacks like the rajas taco pictured above, and a weekend brunch (1133 Huff Rd., Suite C; 404-464-5250).

Vine & Tap, the long-in-the-works new Buckhead wine bar, will open Friday, February 14. A fire last summer delayed the opening, as have the various ins and outs of permitting and licensing, but Friday it is. "We thought it only fitting, that since Valentine's day is at the end of the week to change our opening," Vine & Tap posted on its Facbeook page. Owner Ian Mendelsohn, who honed his knowledge as a beverage director at the St. Regis hotel, will offer an extensive of wines by the glass. He recruited Brian Obermeyer, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained former head chef of Roswell's Pastis, to design the menu of small bites, salads and desserts (2770 Lenox Rd. NE; 404-600-5820).
