Sweet Treat: Sticky Toffee Pudding at 4th & SwiftBy Christopher Hassiotis | March 28, 2014 By Christopher Hassiotis | March 28, 2014
Every week we take upon ourselves the weighty task of finding desserts and sweets in Atlanta worth a bite. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it, right? Know of a delicious delight we should check out? Let us know in the comments or via Twitter.
The Spot: 4th & Swift
The Treat: If you're perusing a dessert menu and your server, unprompted, says, "Go for the sticky toffee pudding, it's kind of what we're known for," you'd be wise to follow his advice. The dessert has been a mainstay on the Old Fourth Ward restaurant's menu since pastry chef Chrysta Poulos introduced it years ago; though she's departed, it remains. Dense, caramelly, conjuring thoughts of natural sweetness like dates and honey, this is one of those desserts where just a few bites can truly satisfy. An uncomplicated vanilla ice cream and crunchy, sweet candied pecans provide great temperature and textural variety.
The Accompaniment: Sticky toffee pudding's a sweet, rich dessert. You could go for something dry and caramelly (a bourbon, perhaps?) but upping the richness quotient with a glass of the sparkling Cleto Chiarli “Grasparossa di Castelvetro” lambrusco ($8) on 4th & Swift's menu seems like a bold way to go.
