The monthly Homespun Dinner, created by hosts/chefs Jamie and Jason Jimenez (ex Canoe, Local Three), takes place at StudioPlex. The dining event offers a locally sourced meal that includes snacks, communal wine, a first course and family-style dinner, followed by coffee and dessert. Tickets to the event cost $55 per person, and dinner runs from 6:30 to 9:30 PM (StudioPlex, 659 Auburn Ave. NE, #134).

Chef Ryan Hidinger passed away last week at the age of 36, but his impact was profound thanks in part to his cooking, his plans for the restaurant Staplehouse, and his involvement in the nonprofit The Giving Kitchen. An open-to-the-public celebration of his life takes place on Sunday from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot. "In a note he left to us he reminded everyone that you can't spell funeral without 'fun,'" wrote the event's organizers on the Staplehouse blog. A eulogy takes place at noon (Georgia Railroad Freight Depot, 65 Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. SE).
Grab a seat and grab a beer, as Publik Draft House and local beer crafters Monday Night Brewing celebrate the kickoff of the Great Southern Beer Competition. The competition gives local home brewers a chance to showcase their talents, but tonight's event is open to all and features food pairings provided by Publik, as well as live music, beer-making demonstrations and more. Holeman & Finch will host Duck, Duck Goose author and Hunter Angler Gardener Cook blogger Hank Shaw (pictured above) on Sunday. Shaw is traveling the country in his pickup truck to promote his book, and will discuss recipes and techniques for cooking ducks and geese. Tickets cost $100 and include a copy of the book, drinks at a cocktail reception and a three-course dinner (including wine pairings) inspired by Shaw's cooking.
