Barley Swine chef Bryce Gilmore is having a good year. First he reopened his first locale, Odd Duck, in a brick-and-mortar location, and now news has just arrived that he’s officially a finalist for the James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest. Although he was a finalist in the same category last year, we think the second time will be the charm.
Two other Austin chefs made it to the semifinals round - Congress’ David Bull and Uchi and Uchiko’s Philip Speer - but Gilmore is the only one to progress. The awards will be announced on May 5. Fingers crossed!
