Austin Weekend Planner: Grilled Cheese and BirthdaysBy Megan Giller
September 27, 2013 By Megan Giller | September 27, 2013
We already told you about the many festivals happening this weekend, and as promised, here are all of the other wonderful events happening over the next couple of days. It's going to be a busy weekend.
Haymaker Grand Opening
The new Manor Road hangout is already pretty populated, but the restaurant and bar officially opens today, with a big party. Look for drink specials and adult snowcones. The best part? It starts at 2 PM. Happy Friday to us (starts 2 PM, 2310 Manor Rd.).
Happy Hour to Empower
Head to in.gredients for a killer combination of grilled cheese and beer from Antonelli’s, Baked in Austin and Hops & Grain to raise funds for FeelGood, a youth-driven nonprofit working to eradicate hunger. The raffle prizes (barre classes, massages, delivery from Farmhouse Delivery) look pretty rich too (6-8 PM, 2610 Manor Rd.).
Chef Brian Malarkey’s Birthday Celebration
The celebrity chef is back in town to celebrate his birthday at his new Austin restaurant, Searsucker. The late happy hour starts at 10 PM, with discounted bites and small plates as well as drink specials. Plus, Malarkey himself will be pouring complimentary champagne for anyone who wishes him a happy birthday (starts at 10 PM, 415 Colorado St.).
Brunch at Hotel San Jose
The beloved boutique hotel and bar that’s great for celebrity watching is now the place to be for brunch as well. However, it’s just once a month, this Saturday and on Oct. 26 and Nov. 23, so be sure to plan accordingly. Enjoy quiche, bagel and lox, pastries, mimosas, coffee from Jo’s and, of course, micheladas on the patio (10 AM-1 PM, 1316 S. Congress Ave.).
