This week’s perfect spring weather beckoned us to Perla’s patio, where we dined on more seafood than we thought possible. After oysters, our next stop was the octopus appetizer.
A take on the Spanish tapas dish pulpo gallego, Perla’s grills their octopus and serves it with the best little fried tater tots that you’ve ever had, making for interesting layers of flavor, the protein tender with the right amount of chew and the starch crunchy yet soft in the middle. Everything is enhanced by the saffron aioli and capers hiding underneath, as well as the dots of spicy red chimichurri. The presentation gets a boost from the beautiful garnish of red onions, parsley and other fresh herbs on top.
