Best Thing We Ate: Grilled Quail at Lenoir
This weekend we treated ourselves to Lenoir, chef Todd Duplechan’s “hot weather” restaurant on South First Street. We loved the fall touches on the menu, like the persimmons salad with sweet spiced pecan puree and the poha-crusted cobia served in a butternut dashi broth with a relish of butternut squash, corn and persimmons. But it was the grilled quail that won our stomachs. It came with tender marinated eggplant and bell peppers in a blackberry soy sauce that added just the right amount of sweetness and tang. The grilled quail meat practically fell off the bone and the hearty dish was a nice reminder that cooler days are to come.
