Building Austin’s Perfect Burger: the CondimentsBy Megan Giller | October 23, 2013 By Megan Giller | October 23, 2013
For Burger Week we rounded up the city's must-try new burgers. With so many delicious burgers - and delicious burger elements - on the list, it got us thinking. What if we could build the perfect Austin burger, using all of our favorite ingredients from around town? So we're going to do just that, and on Friday we’ll put everything together for a sandwich you can’t resist.
On Monday we picked the bun: a classic hamburger bun from Easy Tiger. Yesterday we picked the pickles: fresh dill and garlic from Pogue Mahone Pickles. Today it’s all about the sauce, namely the smoked onion marmalade from Drink.Well. Usually we love a classic ketchup and mustard combo, but this stuff has made us change our mind. The smoky flavor is cut by the sweetness of the caramelized onions, which complements any burger perfectly, especially their Kobe beef burger. If we had our druthers, we’d be putting this stuff on everything, a la Buddy with syrup in Elf. But since it’s Burger Week, we’ll stick to just patties for now.
