Building Austin’s Perfect Burger: the PicklesBy Megan Giller | October 22, 2013 By Megan Giller | October 22, 2013
For Burger Week we rounded up the city's must-try new burgers. With so many delicious burgers - and delicious burger elements - on the list, it got us thinking. What if we could build the perfect Austin burger, using all of our favorite ingredients from around town? So we're going to do just that, and on Friday we’ll put everything together for a sandwich you can’t resist.
Yesterday we picked the bun: a classic hamburger bun from Easy Tiger. Today it’s all about the pickles. Ever since we tried Pogue Mahone’s fresh dill and garlic pickles at the Mueller Farmers’ Market, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. The name means “kiss my ass” in Gaelic, which was uttered by an Irishman who once told owner Sam Addison that “these are the best damned pickles in the world. Anyone who disagrees can pogue mahone!” The clean, crisp flavor of the pickles, which are closer to a cucumber, have won the company a Good Food Award from judges like Alice Waters, and they add the perfect crunch to our fantasy burger.
