Photo of the Day: Farmers’ Appreciation Luncheon
On Saturday Jack Allen’s Kitchen’s Jack Gilmore and Barley Swine’s Bryce Gilmore hosted the fourth annual appreciation lunch for all of the farmers and ranchers who provide fresh produce and meat to the restaurants. The modest folks are the unsung heroes of the “go local” movement: sure, chefs might buy their veggies from the farmer's market, but the farmers and ranchers are the ones sweating over soil for us to enjoy a small plate at Barley Swine.
The lunch featured fresh food made exclusively with ingredients from local farms (with the exception of some salmon). For example, this blistered okra and tomato salad with goat cheese was as pretty as it was delicious. Plus, Jack Gilmore announced his plans to write a cookbook, to help you make use of all of that fresh produce you picked up at the farmer's market yourself.
