Let Man Up Texas Barbecue’s Drew Thornley and Brad Istre lead you to some of the best barbecue in town (La Barbecue and Kerlin Barbecue), plus an hour-long guided tour of Lady Bird Lake (June 28, $100, 10:30 AM-3:30 PM).
Head to Franklin Barbecue for a 40-person feast with pitmaster Aaron Franklin and Texas Monthly barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn (July 15, tickets go on sale June 20, 6-9 PM, 900 E. 11th St.).
The magazine’s list of the top 50 BBQ joints is practically the barbecue bible, and 21 of those spots will serve smoked meat at the festival. Also, get excited for live music (think country), cold beer and intense conversations about Texas’ favorite cuisine (Sept. 14, Tickets on sale July 29, $75 general admission, $135 VIP, Long Center, 701 W. Sample dozens of barbecue sauces and then vote on your favorite while tasting delicious smoked meats from vendors like Louie Mueller, Black’s and Opie’s.
