Where Chefs Eat: Jack Gilmore at Ramen Tatsu-Ya
Everyone in town truly is lured by chef Tatsu Aikawa's Ramen Tastu-Ya on Lamar and 183 for a taste of the good stuff. Even venerable chefs like Jack Gilmore from Jack Allen’s Kitchen will wait in line for that soup. He orders the #3 Mi-So-Hot with ground pork and an extra egg because he says “that ramen just hits the spot.”
But to Gilmore, it’s not all about the food. He says that another reason he eats at Ramen Tatsu-Ya is because “there’s always a good crowd and their staff is always friendly.” We agree, which is why we included Shion Aikawa on our list of Austin 30 Under 30 honorees in February, because he makes the store a pleasure.
And with a second location on the way, it seems things are good for the Aikawa brothers. Plus now Gilmore will have a place to eat ramen up north when he’s at his Round Rock location of Jack Allen’s and down south when he’s at his Oak Hill location.
