Where to Brunch This Weekend: BarlataBy Megan Giller | April 25, 2014 By Megan Giller | April 25, 2014
Brunch in South Austin often means a trip to South Congress, with venerable places like South Congress Café, Perla’s and Magnolia Café. But this Saturday and Sunday, venture to South Lamar for a tapas-inspired midmorning meal at Barlata from chef Daniel Olivella.
We’ve been obsessed with dinner at the stylish restaurant ever since it opened, with solid small plates like the octopus lata and tenderloin iberico as well as multiple types of paella.
But brunch holds even more fun. Go breakfast savory with tortilla española with chorizo and green peppers and grilled steak with fried eggs, salsa brava and fries or lunch savory with lamb brochettes with cucumber salad and red pepper sauce or salted cod served in a cazuela with mashed potatoes. Or start your day with something sweet like the buttermilk pancakes or Castilian toast with berries, almonds and whipped cream. Or be like us and order everything and then nap until dinner.
