Where to Drink During F1By Megan Giller

A racing enthusiast can’t live on trash bags of Doritos alone. At some point, you’ll need something strong to wash those chips down. Here are some of the best deals around town.
Downtown: W Hotel
The hotel crafted the COTA Flame, the official cocktail of The Circuit of the Americas track. The sweet-and-spicy drink includes Tito’s vodka, Paula’s Texas Orange and Bad Dog Barcraft’s Fire and Damnation Bitters. Try it at the race track or drink up at the W, where you’ll also get a custom souvenir glass (200 Lavaca St., 512-542-3600).
West Sixth Street: Bess Bistro
To celebrate the race, the West Sixth Street bar concocted the McLaren, with chilled vodka and blood orange topped off with G.H. Mumm. This and other craft cocktails complement bar menu items, like roasted quail and endive and watercress salad (500 W. Sixth St., 512-477-2377).
South Austin: Gibson Bar
Traditional daiquiris are only $5 over the weekend at this hip spot. Try the original with rum, fresh lime and agave nectar served over ice, or go for the unusual with one of the many specialty flavors. If you’re hungry, hit up Luke’s Inside Out trailer for a mean sandwich (1109 S. Lamar Blvd., 512-386-1345).
Rainey Street: Craft Pride
There’s no better time to drink Texas craft brews than at F1. The Texas-themed beer bar on Rainey Street has a special Taste of Austin beer flight for the occasion, with 5 pours of local favorites for $11. Plus get some Detroit-style pizza at the Via 313 trailer out back (61 Rainey St., 512-428-5571).
