Where to Find the Best Free Food at SXSW 2015

South by Southwest is full of promises of free food and free parties with your favorite tech idols and rock stars, but oftentimes that translates into waiting in line for two hours for a cold taco after the band has left the building. So we’re cutting through the noise with this curated guide to the tastiest free treats at the festival. As always, come early for the best chance at snagging this highly desirable free food.

Sliders, Dogs, Drinks and More at Rachael Ray’s Feedback  
Who: Open to the public
What: Rachael Ray creates recipes just for the free Saturday extravaganza, like barbecue chicken tacos, grilled corn with chipotle cream and beef sliders with barbecue onions and more, with beer from Blue Moon. Plus bands like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Delta Spirit and more all day.
When: Saturday, March 21, 10 AM-4 PM
Where: Stubb’s BBQ, 801 Red River St.

Texas Barbecue at La Barbecue

What: A music showcase by The Most Definitely and Wind-up Records, with free barbecue and beer (and Vita Coco) from one of the best places in town.
When: March 18 and 19, noon–7 PM (but get there early for BBQ)
Where: La Barbecue, 921 E. Cesar Chavez St.

Migas at the W Hotel
Who: Open to the public
What: KGSR radio station is hosting live music at the downtown W hotel, and the first 30 people get free a migas cone (scrambled eggs with tortilla strips, cheddar, pico de gallo, vegetables and salsa in a tortilla cone)
When: March 18–20 from 6 AM to 10 AM, March 21 from 8 AM to noon
Where: 200 Lavaca Street. Go to the W for the migas and ACL Live at Moody Theater for the broadcast

Healthy Drinks and Smoothies at Whole Foods

What: Onnit is celebrating its launch at Whole Foods with free hot and cold drinks at the downtown store’s Whole Body section. Think coffee, matcha chai tea, hemp protein shakes and smoothies and events like a podcast from Joe Rogan. Mention Zagat and you’ll get a full-size drink.
When: March 13–16
Where: Whole Body section at Whole Foods, 525 N. Lamar Blvd.

BBQ Ice Cream Made With Liquid Nitrogen

What: As part of the GE BBQ Research Center's live experiments, highly anticipated Spun Ice Cream will be demonstrating and giving away liquid-nitrogen-made ice cream. The blue plate special comes with buttermilk ice cream with smoked brisket fat powder, pickled jalapeno glass and cornbread cookie crumble.
When: March 14–16, 1–6 PM
