Fans of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" should continue to keep their eyes peeled, because Guy Fieri filming around Boston. Tips and social media stalking - er, research - has helped place him at spots like Saus, Blunch, Deep Ellum and Mike's City Diner. This week Esquire released a list of the Best Bars in America, and two Boston joints were in the mix: Kenmore Square cocktail den The Hawthorne and storied Irish pub J.J. Foley's. Some locals took issue with Esquire listing the Downtown location of J.J.'s, rather than the storied (and significantly more charming) 105-year old original in the South End. Whether that was intentional or an oversight, it's a small complaint compared to those in San Francisco and Chicago - two cities with progressive mixology scenes that, much to the chagrin of some online complainants, went unrecognized. New openings this week include il Casale Cucina Campana + Bar, the Lexington sibling to chef Dante de Magistris' il Casale in Belmont, focusing on his family recipes for baked pasta, seafood dishes, and Neapolitan street food. Today local Mexican chain Papagayo becomes the first restaurant to open at Assembly Row, a Somerville retail and residential complex, and The Taco Truck, a multi-city food truck brand, opens its first Boston brick and mortar on Saturday at 83 Mount Auburn Street in Harvard Square, according to a rep. There's only one month left to eat at the original location of the locally-based Metropolitan restaurants. Chestnut Hill's Metropolitan Club will close on June 28, reports Eater, with which Kathy Sidell share plans about an upcoming expansion "across the country with a major mall owner." (Step one: The October opening of a restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland.) "It was exceedingly difficult for me to quell my emotional attachment to the space," Sidell wrote to Eater about her emotional attachment to the original location. "As a business woman, I had to make the most sound decision for the company and that was to let go and to move forward. The decision is indeed bittersweet." [Eater Boston]

It was announced this week that Flank, a new restaurant coming to the Boston suburb of Waltham, is looking to revive the "beefsteak" dining experience, a turn-of-the-century approach that involved men-only banquets of copious meat eating without silverware or linens. The "modernized" take at Flank will include women and offer contemporary luxuries like forks and napkins, which sounds much more hygienic (and less prone to lawsuits), but does leave us wondering in what other ways the concept will manifest. One cool-sounding feature: a central glass-encased kitchen. [Zagat Boston]
