Kickass Cupcakes, one of the area's earlier entries to the crowded cupcake scene, appears to have closed. Boston Restaurant Talk reports the sudden shuttering, which occurs just a few months after the business relocated its storefront from Somerville's Davis Square to a smaller space at its preexisting baking location. Though Kickass hasn't officially confirmed its closing, all signs point to something permanent: a packed-up storefront, full voicemail, disappeared Facebook page and stagnant Twitter account. Eater also noted a Yelp reviewer who claims Kickass failed to fulfill a $300 cupcake order for his wedding last weekend. Not so sweet.  [Boston Restaurant Talk; Eater Boston]

For many, East Boston is one of the less-explored areas of the Hub. But it's also home to some great cuisine that spotlights the city's diversity. So Boston magazine took a taste tour with two favorite local chefs, Tony Messina of Uni and Michael Serpa of Neptune Oyster (one of our latest 30 Under 30 honorees), both Eastie residents. Among the spots they celebrated: Italian joint Rino's Place, Mexican eatery Angela's Cafe, and BlackStrap BBQ, just over the Winthrop border. [Boston Magazine

It looks like Centre Street Cafe is going Italian. The JP favorite was purchased by the team behind Tres Gatos earlier this year, and has been shuttered for renovations. Boston magazine learned that Rialto soon-to-be-alum Brian Rae will be taking over the kitchen, emphasizing "house-made pasta, off-cuts of meats, and local vegetables." Expect it to reopen in early Fall. [Boston Magazine]

Sweet relief for fans of Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, the 87-year old South End icon that closed in late June. Chef Evan Deluty of Stella is planning to buy the joint and reopen it with the same menus next year. Turkey hash, how we missed thee. [The Boston Globe]

Ever wonder what determines the cost of your drink? Serious Eats did, and took a look at the variables that come into play. Among those consulted was Boston guru Jackson Cannon, the mastermind behind Eastern Standard, The Hawthorne and Island Creek Oyster Bar. Cannon shares some insight into the thought process behind pricing out drinks, and striking a balance behind cocktail-related art and commerce. "We'll take a few lumps on this really cool drink that [the bartenders have] created, and it will be great conversation," Cannon explains. "Meanwhile, the gin sour...this is going to do the heavy lifting for us." [Serious Eats]

This week's "Cheat Sheet" took a visit to The Glenville Stops, a new Latin-influenced gastropub in the heart of Allston. In the kitchen is 26-year old toque Juan Pedrosa, an alum of Trade, prepping an eclectic menu that is surprisingly sophisticated for such a student-heavy 'hood. Get the full scoop here. In the world of round-ups, we took a look at 6 Foodie Day Trips Around Boston, offering some edibles- and action-packed itineraries to destinations from Providence, RI to Provincetown, MA. Closer to home, we raised a toast to a growing bar trend with this look at 8 Places to Drink Bottled & Draft Cocktails in Boston. And because the question "where to eat?" is always the most pressing of all, an update of our 25 New Restaurants to Try lineup was in order; some new additions included Bastille Kitchen and Legal Oysteria.
