Details on Ward 8, Opening in OctoberBy Scott Kearnan | October 3, 2013 By Scott Kearnan | October 3, 2013
A member of a major North End restaurant family is preparing to open his new spot, Ward 8, by the end of October. Nick Frattaroli, part of the Frattaroli family whose members own Lucia, Artu, Ducali and Filippo, dubbed his upcoming venture Ward 8 for two reasons: it refers to the municipal district the restaurant straddles from its location at 90 North Washington Street (the former home of Nebo, which has since relocated to Atlantic Wharf), and it's also the name of a whiskey cocktail that was born at one of Boston's most iconic restaurants, Locke-Ober, back in 1898. Fittingly, classic drinks will be a focus, courtesy of Eastern Standard alum Mike Wyatt helming the bar. (This summer Wyatt, pictured, represented Boston as one of five finalists in the US Angostura Cocktail Challenge.) As for the kitchen? It sounds like it's shaping up to take an elevated gastropub approach, with dishes like maple chili duck wings, ginger-miso glazed salmon, crispy pork tacos and curried mussels.
