Boston Food Events This Week: Tiki Cocktails, Wine Nights and Beer BashesBy Scott Kearnan | July 6, 2014 By Scott Kearnan | July 6, 2014
Monday. South End newcomer Wink & Nod hosts the next installment of its Tiki Night series, industry-baiting Monday bashes. Each installment features guest bartenders, signature tropical drinks, island-inspired bites and, most likely, grass skirts and Tom Selleck mugs. Get into the kitsch starting at 5 PM, though you'll need to wait until 11 PM for the weekly guest bartender. Tonight, that's Scott Fitzgerald: brand ambassador for Mount Gay Rum, which bills itself as the world's oldest rum brand. While you're there, you might want to dive into one of the 10 Best Things We Ate (So Far) This Year: squid ink pasta from the resident Whisk team.
Tuesday. If you like the Seaport, steakhouses and sports, swim over to Del Frisco's tonight from 6:30-9 PM. The restaurant will host Seaport Strong, a fundraiser for the Greg Hill Foundation: an organization founded by the eponymous local radio personality that helps individuals needing support due to sudden tragedies, from illnesses to car accidents. Your $50 ticket (available here) gets you access to a swank steakhouse serving hors d'oeuvres, cocktails served by "celebrity bartenders," and a silent auction filled with signed sports memorabilia and dining packages. Proceeds from this event will specifically go toward the Foundation's Marathon Survivor Fund, which supports requests that are not covered by traditional insurance.
Wednesday. On July 9, Lineage launches Guest Sommelier Month. Every Wednesday will host a different oenophile that will work the dining room to educate guests on intriguing varieties. Tonight's kickoff will include pinot noir and syrah selected by Charles River Wine Company's Arik Colbath; future installments will feature beverage and wine directors from Silvertone Bar & Grill, The Urban Grape, Row 34 and Asta. In addition, all bottles from Lineage's wine list are half-priced throughout July - a good reason to sip your way through as many selections as you can manage.
Thursday. Care to discover the latest and greatest in the West Coast craft beer scene? On Thursday, July 10, Foundry on Elm will host a special San Diego Beer Social, a tap takeover featuring six different breweries from the city: Stone Brewing Co., Coronado Brewing, Green Flash Brewing, Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits, Smith Brewing Co., and The Lost Abbey. There will be 24 varieties in all, perfect for pairing with an American brasserie menu that has been rejuvenated by new exec chef Alex Jenkins.
