Farm-to-Glass Mixology Competition Coming to BostonBy Scott Kearnan

On a day like today, it's not too soon to start thinking about spring. Especially since the Mass Farmers Market just announced its inaugural "Farm to Glass, Mixology Throwdown" for Saturday, March 15 at the W Hotel from 1-3:30 PM. The organization is a partnership between farmers and communities and manages three of the area's major farmer's markets: Boston Copley Square, Cambridge Central Square and Somerville Davis Square. The "Farm to Glass" fundraiser will pit 10 beloved local bartenders against each other in challenges to create cocktails using farm-fresh ingredients and locally-made products: including some surprises found in a "Mystery CSA." As an extra challenge, the finalist mixologists will rely on a trio of barbacks culled from event attendees - and will be judged by a panel of guest judges, including yours truly. Noshes and DJ spinning round out the event.
And the bartenders? It's an all-star team that includes (left to right) Brett Henderson of Ceia Kitchen + Bar, Emily Jamison of Area Four, Young Won of Rialto, Vikram Hegde of Sarma, and Scott Shoer of Sycamore. Also competing are Bill Earle of Post 390, Ginny Edwards of the soon-to-open Wink & Nod, Charlie Gaeta of The Blue Ox, recent 30 Under 30 honoree Kevin Mabry of jm Curley, and Jon Winegar-Mendez of Trade.
VIP tickets are $125, which include a pre-event champagne toast with participants, access to a VIP Lounge, a chance to participate as a barback, and gift bags. Individual tickets are $50, which include samples of all cocktails, two drink tickets good for full-size versions of your favorites, and passed hors d'oeuvres. Grab them here.
